Satoshi Yoshiji is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Genetics at McGill University and McGill CERC in Genomic Medicine. He is also affiliated with McGill’s Quantitative Life Sciences Program and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

Dr. Yoshiji, a board-certified endocrinologist and human geneticist, leverages human genetics and multi-omics to address clinically relevant questions, uncover biological insights, accelerate drug target discovery, and advance precision medicine.

Following his residency and fellowship in Japan, he earned a joint PhD in Human Genetics from McGill University and Kyoto University. He then joined the Broad Institute, before returning to Montreal to start his lab. His lab’s research focuses on three main pillars:

  • Large-scale human genetics and multi-omics analysis for drug target discovery: Using genomics, proteomics, and other omics in combination with genetic epidemiology methods to understand the underlying mechanisms of complex diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, and to identify potential drug targets.
  • Building and analyzing a new multi-ancestry, multi-omics biobank, BioPortal: Co-leading the creation and analysis of BioPortal, a multi-ancestry, multi-omics biobank of 12,500 individuals in Montreal, to accelerate drug development and advance precision medicine.
  • Disentangling the heterogeneity of diabetes and cardiometabolic diseases: Using genetics, proteomics, and other omics to dissect the heterogeneity of diabetes and complex traits to understand their distinctive biology, identify drug targets, and ultimately promote precision medicine.
